Long-running MMO action game DC Universe Online is set to make its debut on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. The news was announced by senior community manager Ted Stone in a blog update on the DC Universe Online website. The game is scheduled to arrive on current-gen systems later this year, just in time for the holiday season.
According to Stone, playing DC Universe Online on the latest hardware will offer performance gains. Additionally, the development team is working on gameplay improvements and quality of life enhancements to elevate the overall experience. These updates will be rolled out gradually, with some launching in the coming months before the release on next-gen consoles.
Interestingly, Stone ensures that players who have been enjoying DC Universe Online on older systems can seamlessly transition to the newer versions. They will be able to continue playing on the same servers with their existing characters, friends, and all of their in-game purchases and achievements intact.
While the announcement confirmed the arrival of DC Universe Online on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, there was no mention of whether Xbox Series S will receive the same upgrade. As Series S titles typically run on Series X, it remains uncertain whether this is an oversight or a deliberate decision.
DC Universe Online originally launched in 2011 on PS3 and PC. In 2013, the game received a version for the PS4, followed by an Xbox One version in 2016 and a Nintendo Switch version in 2019.
Furthermore, the game continues to deliver new content, with the 46th episode set to launch in October. One of the notable aspects of DC Universe Online is that all previous episodes are accessible for free, offering an extensive amount of gameplay without additional cost. However, players should keep in mind that there is a monthly subscription fee along with in-game purchases.
As fans eagerly await the release of DC Universe Online on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, stay tuned for further updates from the development team regarding the game’s enhancements and release dates.
