Gun Interactive has reassured fans that The Texas Chain Saw Massacre game won’t face the same IP licensing issues as Friday the 13th: The Game. Last year, Friday the 13th had to shut down its online servers indefinitely due to expired licensing, limiting gameplay to peer-to-peer matches. However, Gun Interactive claims that the situation with Texas Chain Saw Massacre is different.
According to PCGamesN, Gun Interactive’s creative director Ronnie Hobbs explained that they are directly dealing with Kim Henkel, the sole owner of the IP. They have been collaborating closely with him not only creatively but also legally to ensure a smooth process. Hobbs reassured fans that they have been diligent in their efforts.
Gun Interactive received numerous proposals from potential partners interested in developing a Texas Chainsaw Massacre game. However, they ultimately chose to partner with Kim Henkel, who co-wrote the original screenplay of the 1974 film. Hobbs mentioned that both parties shared a strong interest in creating the game, which solidified their decision.
Meanwhile, Friday the 13th: The Game will soon be delisted and will no longer be available for purchase after December 31, 2023. Gun Interactive has offered the game at a substantial discount for those interested. However, for horror game enthusiasts, there are plenty of other options to explore while waiting for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre’s release.
The highly anticipated game based on The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is scheduled to launch on August 18, 2023, for various platforms including PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
