Ubisoft’s long-time writer and narrative designer, Drew Holmes, has been promoted to hold the reins as the IP director for the beloved Far Cry franchise. Bringing years of experience to the table, Holmes previously served as the narrative lead for the series and is now set to spearhead the future of the Far Cry universe.

Expressing his excitement, Holmes took to his LinkedIn page to share the news with fans and industry professionals alike. He said, ‘It’s been an exciting few months…I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as IP Director of Far Cry at Ubisoft! We have big things in store 🙂 Don’t hesitate to reach out if you want to be a part of the next evolution of this great brand!’

Holmes has an impressive track record in the gaming industry. Prior to his work on Far Cry, he served as the story lead for the critically acclaimed titles Far Cry: New Dawn (2019) and Far Cry 5 (2018). Additionally, Holmes worked as the lead writer for Irrational Games’ BioShock Infinite and contributed to the success of the first three Saints Row games at Volition.

Fans of the Far Cry series will be thrilled to know that Ubisoft has exciting projects in the pipeline. According to press reports, the company is currently working on Far Cry 7 and a standalone Far Cry multiplayer game.

While details about Far Cry 7 are scarce, insiders suggest that Ubisoft is developing the game using its Snowdrop engine, a departure from the Dunia engine used in recent entries. As for the multiplayer game, reports indicate that it will follow an extraction-based shooter format and be set in the breathtaking Alaskan wilderness.

Although specific release dates have not been confirmed, industry rumors tentatively point towards the fall/autumn of 2025 for both Far Cry 7 and the standalone multiplayer title. Ubisoft enthusiasts will undoubtedly keep a close eye on any developments regarding these highly anticipated releases.

It is worth noting that Far Cry 6, which launched in 2021, introduced an online campaign co-op feature but did not include competitive multiplayer. As fans eagerly await the next installment, they can rest assured that Drew Holmes, with his wealth of experience and creative vision, is poised to guide the Far Cry franchise towards an exciting future.

The change in leadership comes after Dan Hay, the former boss of Far Cry, bid adieu to Ubisoft in 2021. Having spent a decade at the Montreal studio overseeing the series during its most prosperous period, Hay has embraced a new chapter as he takes charge of Blizzard’s forthcoming survival game.
