The creator of a popular GTA 5 AI mod, known as Bloc, recently had their mod removed from various platforms at the request of Take-Two, the parent company of Rockstar Games.
According to an announcement posted on YouTube, Bloc expressed their surprise and disappointment at the sudden removals of their mod and installation guide from platforms like Netlify and NexusMods.
Bloc claimed that Take-Two did not contact them prior to the takedown and provided no opportunity for explanation. They received a copyright strike on their channel, which will hinder monetization for the next three months.
The modder raised doubts about the reasoning behind Take-Two’s actions, pointing out that many YouTube videos featuring GTA 5 gameplay remain unaffected. They emphasized that their mod, Sentient Streets, was open-source and did not use copyrighted voices from the game.
While Bloc expressed a willingness to engage in a discussion with Take-Two, they criticized the publisher’s lack of communication and questioned the company’s approach to fan creativity.
Quoting Rockstar Games’ support for fan creativity, Bloc highlighted the contrast between this stance and the shutdown of their mod. They also highlighted the challenges faced by individual creators when defending themselves against large corporations.
Neither Take-Two nor Rockstar Games has issued a comment regarding the situation.
In other news, Take-Two recently hinted at a potential late 2024 or early 2025 release window for GTA 6.
