Dark and Darker, the RPG game recently launched in early access, is hoping to make a return to the Steam storefront. Developer Ironmace reveals that Valve holds the fate of the game’s Steam presence while addressing the lack of availability on the platform.
Earlier this year, Dark and Darker was removed from Steam due to a cease and desist letter issued by publisher Nexon, citing alleged copyright infringement. While the game is currently available on a new publisher’s website, it is still missing from Steam.
During a recent Discord Q&A, a user asked Ironmace if the game will return to Steam soon. In response, the developer stated that the decision lies with Valve. Ironmace also acknowledged and respected Steam’s concerns surrounding the game.
Although the Nexon lawsuit against Ironmace was dismissed in the United States District Court, it remains uncertain if Dark and Darker will return to Steam in the US or face legal challenges elsewhere. Nevertheless, fans are relieved to have access to their favorite Dark and Darker classes once again.
Ironmace also shared its thoughts on the current state of Dark and Darker in the Q&A session. The developer noted that only the core part of the first-person extraction dungeon crawler is currently implemented and that the game requires more systems and content to remain engaging.
Ironmace emphasized the importance of defending against vulnerabilities and safeguarding the core gameplay experience. While it is impossible to prevent all vulnerabilities, the developer is exploring various methods to minimize them. They plan to gradually introduce new methods to achieve this goal.
