Meet the Companions of Starfield | Gametides

Who are the Starfield companions? It’s easy to get lonely in the vast reaches of space, but it wouldn’t be a Bethesda RPG without a companion to tag along with you on your adventure.

You don’t have to find a Starfield companion, but there are Starfield traits that offer additional bonuses for having a companion and staying in their good books. Companions often provide an alternate point of view during Starfield missions, and they aren’t shy about commenting on the decisions you’ve chosen – so prepare to be judged for any morally questionable actions. It also goes without saying that they’re also a prerequisite for a Starfield romance. Here’s the scoop on companions in Starfield, along with their character backgrounds and skills.

Starfield companions are unique NPCs that you can recruit and take with you on your journey across the Settled Systems. They can remain on your ship or stick close to your side, and can become platonic friends and romantic partners.

Starfield companions come with a predetermined set of Starfield skills, so you can easily differentiate their individual strengths and decide who to bring along with you. Companion skills can’t be leveled up any further than their current rank, though any skills you share with them will stack with your own.

There are a total of 20 Starfield companions available to recruit, and Bethesda has revealed a handful of them ahead of Starfield’s release date.

Here are the known Starfield companions:

Adoring Fan

Barrett

Heller

Marika Boros

Sam Coe

Sarah Morgan

VASCO

The Adoring Fan reprises his role from Oblivion to bring us his trademark nagging sycophancy – in space. His primary goal in life is to follow you around and shower you with relentless praise, though he can also be of use out in the wilderness of distant planets thanks to his skills in scavenging and carrying heavy burdens. The Adoring Fan is also the first confirmed companion that can be unlocked by choosing a specific Starfield trait, ensuring that your fate to meet him is written in the stars.

Barrett, a resident of New Atlantis, is a friendly face with skills in Starship Engineering and Particle Beam Weapon Systems. He also plays significant roles in discovering the Artifact and masterminding The Eye.

As an Argos Extractors employee, Heller knows his way around Starfield materials, making him the perfect companion for maintaining a Starfield outpost. His skills in Geology and Outpost Engineering make him a valuable addition to your team.

Marika Boros is a skilled gun specialist from The Viewport of New Atlantis. She excels in combat situations and can handle enemies from Starfield factions. Having her by your side ensures a much easier time when fighting your way out of tough situations.

Sam Coe, a descendant of the founder of Freestar Collective and Akila City, is a confident pilot. His skills in Piloting, Rifle Certification, Payloads, and Geology come in handy during space combat situations.

Sarah Morgan, the acting Chair of the Constellation, is a capable commander and leader. She was previously a soldier and adventurer, making her a dependable companion in the field. Pursuing a romantic relationship with her is also an option.

VASCO is an expeditionary robot originally built by Lunar Robotics Corporation and refurbished to meet the needs of the Constellation. While primarily a support companion, VASCO’s defensive capabilities and ability to assist during long expeditions make him a valuable asset.

In addition to companions, you can hire NPCs as crew members for your ship or outposts. Once hired, they will work for you after an initial payment.

Now that you know all the Starfield companions just waiting to meet you, check out some of the Starfield cities they’re likely to reside in, as well as the houses on offer if you’re looking to settle down with them. We’ve also got a list of the Starfield religions that they might prescribe to, so you can ensure that their beliefs don’t clash with your own.
