As you navigate through these dungeons, you will encounter monsters, traps, loot, and most importantly, puzzles that require your problem-solving skills. One such dungeon is the Gauntlet of Shar, which plays a crucial role in Shadowheart’s Daughter of Darkness quest and Astarion’s Pale Elf quest. In this article, we will guide you through two main puzzles in this dungeon.
The first puzzle in the Gauntlet of Shar is found in the Thorm Mausoleum. In this room, you will come across three paintings. To solve the puzzle, you need to interact with the paintings in a specific order, as indicated by a hint in a book that reads ‘From splendor, to tragedy, to infamy.’ Make sure to disarm any traps in the room before attempting the puzzle. Interact with the paintings in the following order: the painting of the Moonrise Towers on the southwest wall, the painting of Thorm weeping with his dead daughter on the southeast wall, and the painting of Thorm on his throne on the north wall. Once you have done this, a doorway will open, allowing you to proceed to the next puzzle.
The second puzzle involves a statue holding a sphere. To access the statue, you must first interact with levers in the exterior rooms to remove the lanterns. This room is also filled with dangerous traps, so exercise caution. Once all the lanterns are gone, purple markings will appear around the statue in two broken rings. Select a single character from your party and have the others remain where they are. The chosen character must carefully navigate to the center without touching the edges and interact with the orb. Doing so will unlock the next door, leading you further into the dungeon where you will engage in combat and encounter various mechanics such as mimicking party groups, stealth sections, and platforming in the dark.
