Destiny 2 Director Commits to Free PvP Map Pack in Response to Backlash | Gametides

Destiny 2’s game director promises a free PvP map pack next year, following the negative response to the recent State of the Game post.

Bungie recently addressed the complaints of the Destiny 2 community in a State of the Game blog post, stating that they did not have the resources to release more than one PvP map per year. This received significant backlash from the community, especially considering Bungie’s status as a large studio owned by Sony.

To address the concerns and criticism, Destiny 2 game director Joe Blackburn released an apology video on Twitter. He acknowledged that the State of the Game post did not meet players’ expectations for communication.

Blackburn admitted, “It didn’t provide the high-level vision that we normally provide. Truly, a bunch of us were heads down working on The Final Shape and weren’t able to give it the care and love we normally put in… And that’s nobody’s fault but mine.”

Moving forward, Blackburn outlined the team’s plans for Destiny 2, including improvements in PvP, armor, communication strategy, and the upcoming Gamescom 2023 reveal of The Final Shape expansion.

One significant announcement from Blackburn was the promise of a free PvP map pack to be released next year, effectively retracting the previous statement about resource limitations in the blog post.

Additionally, Bungie will be adding more modes to the game’s core playlists and establishing a dedicated PvP team. This team will act as a “PvP strike team” focused on enhancing the PvP experience in the game.

Blackburn explained, “One of the most exciting parts about these strike teams is, we build them based off of community feedback. So these strike teams are built from the ground up to look at, ‘What are the pain points that are hitting our community the most?'”

The community has largely responded positively to Blackburn’s video, with many reposting it along with messages of support.

In the meantime, Bungie is gearing up for the reveal of The Final Shape, which will be the final DLC for The Light and Darkness Saga.
