The highly anticipated Gamescom is just around the corner, and gamers are eagerly awaiting the event’s Opening Night Live. Hosted by Geoff Keighley, this E3-style showcase of upcoming games will feature an exciting debut: new gameplay footage of Crimson Desert.
Initially unveiled at The Game Awards in 2020, Crimson Desert comes from Pearl Abyss, the renowned studio behind the popular MMO Black Desert Online. Set in the gritty medieval fantasy world of Pywel, this single-player open-world RPG immerses players in a biodiverse continent inhabited by humans, fantastical races, and mystical beasts. The game’s narrative revolves around Macduff, a mercenary who assembles a band of comrades to navigate a power struggle between numerous factions vying for control of the continent.
With its presentation and tone, Crimson Desert evokes Western fantasy vibes reminiscent of beloved series like Game of Thrones. The combat in the game is fast-paced, featuring melee combat with various weapons and flashy magic abilities. If you haven’t experienced the thrills of Crimson Desert yet, be sure to check out the gameplay overview released during the game’s initial announcement.
While there is no official release date for Crimson Desert, Pearl Abyss CEO Hajin Young revealed earlier this year that the game is targeting a fall 2023 release window. Gamers can expect to receive an update on the game’s progress during Opening Night Live, which will be broadcasted on August 22 at 11 a.m. Pacific/2 p.m. Eastern. Stay tuned for the exciting new gameplay footage and further details about Crimson Desert!
