When it comes to building your character in Baldur’s Gate 3, you have a wide range of choices. The game offers 12 different classes, catering to various playstyles and preferences. Since its launch on August 3, developer Larian Studios has provided some interesting statistics on the characters and decisions made by players. Surprisingly, one class stands out from the rest by a significant margin: Paladins.
Larian Studios shared an infographic on the game’s Steam Page, detailing the class distribution for custom characters in Baldur’s Gate 3. It reveals that Paladins have emerged as the favorite class, with over 200,000 players pledging their allegiance to the Paladin’s oath. Sorcerers come in second place, followed closely by Warlocks. The complete ranking is as follows:
1. Paladin
2. Sorcerer
3. Warlock
4. Rogue
5. Bard
6. Barbarian
7. Fighter
8. Ranger
9. Wizard
10. Monk
11. Druid
12. Cleric
At the bottom of the list, we find Clerics, with just over 50,000 players choosing the path of the god-fearing healer/warrior. It’s worth noting that some of these rankings can be attributed to the inclusion of certain classes in the game’s main party. For example, there is already a Paladin, Minthara, in the party, but you can only recruit her by performing questionable acts. So, if you want a Paladin on your team, you’ll have to create one yourself. On the other hand, the inclusion of Shadowheart, a Cleric and one of the earliest characters you meet, renders the need for additional Clerics redundant.
The absence of Sorcerers and Bards in the default party composition may explain their popularity among players. Many seem eager to explore these unique abilities to enhance the diversity of their group. Additionally, being a Bard allows you to change the battle music by playing your instrument, which is quite cool.
Party composition is just one aspect of Baldur’s Gate 3’s complex RPG systems. Navigating these systems can be overwhelming, so be sure to check out some of our early game tips to help you make sense of it all.
