David Dastmalchian, known for his roles in Oppenheimer, Marvel’s Ant-Man, and DC’s The Suicide Squad, has expressed a strong desire to play a Bond villain. In an interview with /Film, Dastmalchian revealed his enthusiasm for landing the iconic role of a Bond antagonist.
When asked if he had spoken to Eon about the upcoming Bond film, Dastmalchian stated, ‘It begins right now. So, whoever is reading this, take it as a sign. You were meant to be reading this line at this moment as you’re thinking about the future of what you guys are doing with the franchise.’ Clearly, he is eager to portray the Mount Everest of villainous characters.
Despite already making his mark in Oppenheimer and landing a role in the upcoming Dracula movie, The Last Voyage of the Demeter, Dastmalchian is determined to showcase his villainous prowess. He emphasized, ‘Trust me when I say that I can bring something to an enemy of 007, whether he or she or they be played in a way that no one has ever seen Bond brought to life before, which is of course the way that you guys always do it.’
Dastmalchian’s pitch to the Bond producers is fueled by his confidence in pushing the iconic superspy to the limits. He passionately proclaimed, ‘I think there’s no one to push Bond to the limits of their capabilities the way that I could, and I would love to do it. So, there’s my pitch to them. I can’t wait for them to read this. And then I will owe you when or if I ever get that role, I guess 10%.’
As the Bond franchise searches for the next 007 following Daniel Craig’s exit, the selection of the next Bond villain is expected to be influenced by the choice of the new superspy. Producer Barbara Broccoli has stated that the next Bond film will be a complete reinvention of the franchise, promising an exciting evolution of the beloved character.
Fans of James Bond can delve further into the topic by exploring Henry Cavill’s ‘tremendous’ audition for the role and understanding why a 007 in his early-20s would not be a feasible choice. The highly anticipated next Bond film is still in its early stages, with filming at least two years away.
David Dastmalchian’s aspirations to portray a Bond villain highlight his eagerness to contribute a unique and compelling performance to the franchise. As fans await the announcement of the next Bond and his nemesis, the prospect of Dastmalchian in the role offers an intriguing possibility.
