Valve has announced the availability of “certified refurbished” units of the popular Steam Deck. These renewed devices are being sold at around 20 percent off the prices of their brand new counterparts, making them more affordable than during the Steam Summer Sale. It’s worth noting that these consoles come with the same one-year warranty as the new models.
For those interested, Valve has confirmed that GameStop is now selling refurbished Steam Deck units in select stores as well. However, GameStop’s refurbished models are processed at their own facilities and will be covered by their own warranty.
At present, Valve has all three Steam Deck tiers in stock. The 64GB model is available for $319, the 256GB variant for $419, and the 512GB option is priced at $519. It is important to consider that the new variants of the same systems retail for $399, $529, and $649, respectively.
Valve assures customers that each unit undergoes a thorough testing process before being certified for resale. The company performs a complete factory reset, software update, and an extensive examination that consists of over 100 tests at one of their own facilities. These tests cover various aspects such as controller inputs, audio system, screen, internals, and battery health to ensure proper functionality and longevity.
While the refurbished units may have minor cosmetic blemishes, Valve guarantees a reliable and high-quality gaming experience at a lower cost. Along with the same warranty as new consoles, the refurbished models come with a refurbished power supply, a carrying case, and a quick-start guide. It is worth mentioning that the availability of refurbished Steam Decks is limited and may vary over time. Valve recommends checking their refurbished stock regularly if the units are sold out.
Moreover, GameStop is also offering refurbished Steam Decks starting today. These units are available at select retail locations and are priced up to 20 percent lower than the new models. However, customers will need to have a GameStop Pro membership, which costs $25 annually, to be eligible for purchasing these refurbished devices.
